The Copper or “Red Metal” katana is a Bushi forge folded Shobu Zukuri blade that has been repolished and remounted entirely. Even more changes have been done to it since being introduced.

This katana is the most extensively remounted in the Justice Armory line. The saya has been fully reshaped, then lacquered in an ishime finish. Then, a complete set of copper fuchi, kashira, menuki, koiguchi, kurigata, and kojiri were hand wrought from copper to produce the koshirae set on this blade. The large fuchi and kashira set match the size and length of the blade very well, giving the large and wide shobu profile a well balanced feel.

The new tsuka core is carved from poplar wood, measures 11 inches long, and has a full wrap on high quality samegawa. The silk is dark brown, imported from Japan, as is the matching sageo. It is wrapped in a very tight traditional hineri maki.

The copper menuki and the Samurai on the fuchi and kashira are solid copper, not copper plated. They were created using an advanced jewelers clay which can be shaped and kiln fired into copper. Also, the habaki has had a thin plate of copper soldered to the outside of it, giving it a two piece habaki look.

The new tsuba is a 4mm thick copper tsuba given a hammered and aged finish. This tsuba is only about an ounce heavier than a steel tsuba of the same dimensions.

This katana is being sold for only a small amount over my other heavily modified and polished Bushi katana, like the Aonami and the Shibomu Hana. This fantastic sword handles well, does not rattle in the saya, and draws and sheathes smoothly. It would be a fantastic addition to a collection, especially since fully mounted and shipped it is selling for less than even an average modern smith sells a blade in low polish without mountings for.
